Game Release
The target release window for Sword Hero would be the second half of 2027. I acknowledge that the development timeline may shift depending on the outcome of the Kickstarter, but I’m fully committed to frequent and transparent updates.

What type of game will Sword Hero be?
Sword Hero will be an Open World RPG, mainly inspired by classics from the 2000s. Some direct inspirations are: Berserk, Gothic, Kenshi, Blade of Darkness, Arx Fatalis.

Yes, there will be 3 bigger settlements, one for each Faction - and a small town that serves as the game’s introductory hub sort of.

What languages will be available?
Since I’m a solo developer, for translations I’ll likely need to rely on the community’s help for that. However, if the Kickstarter performs well, professional translations could become possible.

Will there be base building?
Not in the strict sense - But you might be familiar with the home/business owning/renting system in Fable games - SH will have a similar approach.

How do you open the door in the Arena Demo?
It was made static a few months ago - now it’s indestructible - but no worries - there’s literally nothingness on the other side.

Will there be a crime system and punishments?
Yes, crimes will be sorted into 3 main categories - Puny, for which you will get beaten up and potentially robbed by those who you anger, or you need to pay reparations in order to make peace. - Serious crimes, for which the local guards will try to incapacitate you on sight, and carry you to their dungeon, from where you can either escape and make the Faction your enemy, or spend your time, getting a hefty debuff. - And at last, there are Hostile actions, which automatically make the Faction your enemy, such as murdering someone and getting caught red-handed.

Can the player create their own Faction?
While not in a strict sense, like in Mount and Blade for example, joining a Faction won’t be the only way. You can also carve your own path to greatness and your goals, but that path is slippery of blood.

Will you be able to climb?
Using a body upgrade called “Ferroclasp”, you will be able to climb/grab onto certain metallic surfaces.

Will there be online multiplayer?
No, since I’m a solo dev, attempting something like online features would be a tremendous risk for the entire project. For the time being, my goal is to deliver a complete, solid single-player experience. If the stretch goals would allow me to focus on it, I am however prepared to deliver a split-screen co-op mode.

What Engine do you use?
I’m using Unity, with URP.

Will there be Magic/Spells in the game?
Yes, at the beginning of the game you’ll be able to cast spells using Scrolls, which are one-time use. However, if you decide to become a mage, you’ll be able to learn spells after joining a Mage guild. There will be different types of magic available, including Transformation magic.

Will the game have voiceovers?
By default, only the NPC reactions - “barks” - will be dubbed due to financial constraints. (It can end up being rather pricey for a game with lots of dialogue) If by some means the Kickstarter performs that well, I would love to explore the possibilities.

Will the game be compatible with Linux/Proton?
Yes - for the most part it works out of the box, however there are some existing bugs in Unity (which makes you unable to aim or defend/parry properly due to input conflicts) - which I’ll get to the bottom of soon. Steam Deck / Machine compatibility will be very important.

What is your stance on Modding?
First and foremost, I’d like people to experience the Vanilla game before bringing in CJ and Thomas the engine, however following 1.0 it will have a relatively high importance to me to ease modding of the game, as long as there will be interest in doing so.

I can't pick up Arrows - why?
To pick up and reuse already shot arrows - You’ll need to learn a Perk.

Will there be character customization?
Yes, at the beginning of the game you’ll be able to create your character, choosing from a variety of hairstyles, skin tones, facial hair - and eventually choose beginning traits, where you’ll need to balance out positive traits with negative ones - a system many of you might already be familiar with from other games.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
